Bamboo
Flooring
Are you thinking about redoing your floors? Perhaps you
haven’t yet heard of or encountered bamboo flooring. Hardwood
floors are beautiful ways to keep your living spaces looking open,
bright and airy, while carpet makes a room look and feel warmer. It can
be difficult to decide what you want to be walking on in your bare
feet.
Bamboo flooring is available in several slightly different colors. This
wood alternative is smooth and looks very similar to hardwood flooring,
barring the obvious differences of color and grain.
When steamed bamboo stalks are pressed together they form the material
that will eventually become bamboo flooring. The advantage with this
type of floor treatment is that many could consider it more
environmentally friendly, because bamboo can grow quite quickly and is
an easily renewable resource.
Because it is a grass and not a tree, bamboo grows at an amazingly
quick rate. Bamboo plants take 5 – 6 years to grow to full
harvestable height, and much of the bamboo used for bamboo flooring
comes from farmed bamboo plants, grown and cultivated to be floors.
One drawback to having a floor that is constructed of hardwood is that
there is often a moisture issue to deal with. That’s never a
problem with bamboo flooring.
It can also give rooms an exotic feel. This can be appealing to many
who are looking for something different in flooring. Bamboo or perhaps
palm flooring is new and unique, while being more environmental which
is definitely a good trend.
The first stop when you decide to install this type of floor is your
local home improvement center. Not all carry it yet, so you may have to
move your search over to the online world. Many online retailers carry
different varieties of bamboo flooring, as well as having different
sources for the bamboo which they use for the flooring. Some companies
only carry one to three colors of bamboo flooring, while others have a
larger variety but may not have the color that you want.
You can also find flooring that interlocks with itself but does not
need to be attached to the surface below it. This can be useful if you
will want to take your bamboo flooring away to another house when you
move, or if you have a nice hardwood floor below, but are just looking
for a fresh new look.
If you want a fresh, new and very different look in home
décor than consider installing bamboo flooring;
it’s beautiful and can give your space an entirely new look.
