Cake Decorating Ideas

It is not always easy coming up with new ideas for parties. I always feel that other people’s ideas are so clever. I was planning a birthday party for my husband and wanted to have some fresh ideas. I started going through cookbooks and entertaining magazines to see what I could find.

There was several cake decorating ideas that looked interesting. Some of the recipes were for less traditional desserts. I had several magazines and cookbooks spread on my kitchen counter when my mother stopped over. I explained that I was looking for cake decorating ideas for my husband’s birthday. My mom’s advice was that I should keep things simple. My mother has always been a great party giver so her advice was important to me. She told me that through the years that she has noticed that the simpler the party the more people seemed to enjoy themselves. She found that if she planned activities around a party theme it would disrupt people visiting with each other. Also she would not enjoy the party because she would be trying to get people involved in activities.

I thought my mother had a valid point. I enjoy parties where I can mingle amongst guest without any expectations of participating in games or activities. I still was looking for cake decorating ideas because my husband loves desserts and I thought it would be nice to have something other than the traditional frosted cake. The books were still spread on the counter when my husband came home from work. He knows that I am planning a birthday party. I had picked out several recipes from the magazines of cake decorating ideas. I asked him which one he would like. He looked at the choices and thought they all sounded good. He did say that he likes traditional frosted cakes from the bakery because we do not have them very often. This would certainly be the simplest thing to do.

The next day I went to the bakery to order a cake. The baker handed me a book that had several photos of cake decorating ideas that had been created in the past. He said that I could choose from the book, have a traditional floral design or he could custom create a design. I looked through the amazing photos of cake decorating ideas. I did not know that the bakery offered such a variety. I explained that my husband loves to fish and hunt. The baker shares these passions and said that he could create a cake that would represent both activities.

I was very pleased with the cake decorating ideas that the baker shared with me. I was going to give my husband the bakery cake he wanted, yet still have a unique design. I bought decorations in the hunting and fishing theme, but I am not planning any activities for the guests.
