Decorative
Fireplace Screens
Fireplaces used to be a necessity in each and every home. With the
technological advances over the course of time, these functional pieces
actually serve no purpose. Today homes are heated using the other means
and the good old fireplace has been put to rest in most homes.
However, the fireplaces did not simply function to heat homes. They
served another valuable purpose as well. The fireplaces also functioned
as décor for the home and many homeowners are looking to
faux fireplaces to capture the classic style associated with the home
heating devices.
When considering the faux form of the outdated heating appliance, I
wanted to find something that really worked in our home. Although I am
quite fond of our faux unit that we selected and installed, I am even
happier with the decorative fireplace screen we chose to pull the whole
look together.
The decorative fireplace screen was a little pricy because I opted for
stained glass. Tiffany lamps and stained glass art have always been
very appealing to me. My grandfather worked with stained glass during
his twilight years and created a few objects that I cherish. We chose
to incorporate the stained glass into the room and found that the best
way to do this was through a decorative fireplace screen.
Stained glass is a trend that is gaining popularity in the designs and
this is almost disheartening for me. I like the idea of having a unique
piece that no one else owns. This is especially so because of my
association with stained glass and my grandfather. I wanted the
decorative fireplace screen to be as unique as he was. With his
original stained glass artwork in the backdrop it actually is quite
unusual.
The stained glass is a great feature because it sets off a beautiful
display of light when candles are placed behind the decorative
fireplace screen. This creates movement and texture in the room and the
play of shadows on the walls is magnificent.
Ironically, decorative fireplace screens were originally created to
function as a safety device for the natural dangers associated with
burning wood indoors. The screens were used to keep sparks from flying
out into the room. This function is not utilized in many decorative
fireplace screens today.
Even though the equipment is not used as a safety measure it does
provide a great function. Decorative fireplace screens are, well,
decorative. They embellish the fireplace and create a focal point for
the room. They serve as a final touch for the element whether it
actually heats the home if whether it beautifies the home.
